Helen Britton House works in partnership with local specialist sexual violence support agencies to ensure that you continue to receive support beyond Helen Britton House.
Role of ISVA
ISVA stands for Independent Sexual Violence Advisor. The ISVA works independently from the Police this means that you will have someone who has no agenda other than to see that your rights are met and you have all the relevant information about your individual case.
If you have reported to the Police then the advisor will work closely with them to make sure that your voice and your opinion about the investigation is heard. The ISVA will provide immediate emotional support as well as practical help. She will continue to support you throughout the court process so that you feel included and are kept informed.
If required the ISVA can:
- Arrange pre trial visits to court and accompany you there.
- Keep you updated on the progress of the case.
- Accompany and support you at court.
- Work on your behalf to ensure that your rights are met.
- Help you to access support or counselling after the court case.
Emotional Support & Counselling
Regardless of whether or not you have a case going to court you may need some emotional support and/or counselling following your traumatic experience.
Helen Britton House can arrange for you to receive counselling or emotional support that is suitable to your circumstances and location. Specialist sexual violence support services provide the emotional support and counselling across Teesside.
